Respect Redefined

 

WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CELL & INTERNAL COMPLAINT COMMITTEE had organized a workshop and Interactive Session on the very emotional issue called Respect Redefined for the students, teaching, administrative and non-teaching   staff of Gujarat University on Wednesday, 17th July 2019 at the Seminar Hall of Botany Department, Gujarat University. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. himanshu Pandya, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Gujarat university and Dr. Jagdish Bhawsar, honourable Pro vice Chancellor, of Gujarat university. Dr. Savita Gandhi (Chairperson WDC and ICC) and Smt Shailaja Andhare (national vice president of all india organization, bhartiya stree Shakti) welcomed all the esteemed dignitaries by presenting them a memento as a token of appreciation. Smt Shailaja Andhare gave a brief introduction of the workshop.

Respected Vice chancellor sir talked about how to respect everyone irrespective of their gender, age, position and qualification. He also quoted on maintaining respect among all family members with emphasis on being good rather than being correct.

Inauguration session was followed by the talk of the speakers. Three eminent speakers delievered talk and conducted panel discussions. To begin with, the first speaker was Ms. Shailendra Zala, gender resource officer from gender resource center, body of women and child department, Gujarat University. She talked about the violence that take place on women. She first introduced all activities conducted by the gender resource center and efforts put in by them to bring the females into main stream. She also showed a video demonstrating the concept of gender equality. She also talked about the provision of female counselors at various police stations. She was presented a memento as a token of respect.

The second speaker was Dr. Gaurang jani from sociology department of school of science, Gujarat University. He has worked on gender equality and cast equality. He talked about gender equality, how women can work to achieve their active status in society. He also talked about the male female ratio, marriages in tribal communities, ‘saata’ system and human trafficking in various states of India. He emphasized on importance of discussion to solve any problem. He emphasized on making boys and girls sit on the same bench in a classroom, so that they can know how to behave with girls from the beginning of their life.

The talks were followed by a panel discussion led by Dr. Sarika dave, from CU Shah College Gujarat university. The session was highly interactive with multiple questions from the students. The questions were on self-decision on choosing life partner, restriction on girls willing to marry as per their choice, honor killing and equality in public transport.

Dr. Savita Gandhi also emphasized that WDC is for both boys as well as girls. The session was concluded by Mrs. Shailaja Andhare. Dr. Archana Mankad, Member Secretary – ICC & WDC presented the formal Vote of Thanks. Ms. Maitri Jhaveri anchored the whole programme very gracefully as Master of Ceremonies. All participants received a certificate of participation.
