International Women’s Day 2019
Women Development Cell and Internal Complaint Cell Gujarat University celebrated the International Women’s Day on Friday, 8th March 2019 with a lot of enthusiasm and zest. The Program involved cultural programs by the students of different PG departments on the campus, an exciting Quiz competition for the audience and proactive faculty participation.
The programmed started with the University song and Ganesh stuti was very creatively presented by Ms. Priyanka Pati (Oddissi) and Ms. Kruti Bhavsar (Kathak), from Department of Botany, Bioinformatics and Climate Change Impacts management. This was followed by a solo song by Ms. Cheryl Francis from Commerce Department. A skit was performed by the students of commerce department. It was an effort to showcase various issues of the society and bring awareness among people. It focused on the current affairs of the youth and especially related to the issues in education. The skit had won first prize in the zonal and inter zonal youth festival of Gujarat University. Students from commerce department also performed group song. Three set of western songs. Two songs are from 70’s classics performed by Abba called dancing queen and Mamma Mia and they ended their performance by singing a song from cheap thrills. The energy and the enthusiasm were palpable when the students sang gracefully in their beautiful attires. The students from Department of computer science presented a skit on the theme of army behind army. A very creative representation with an element of awareness and sensitization. A pride they share together, an honored life they lead each day; they are the pillars of strength for those who guard our country. A guest performance by Ms. Purva kept the audience spell bound. It was a very graceful Garba dance performed along with a Bollywood song. East or West India is the best. And we are proud of our nation. This is a beautiful epitome of unity in diversity. Above all we love our mother India. This was the theme of a beautiful dance performance by the department of botany students. A beautiful garba was performed by the teaching and non-teaching staff of Gujarat University. The programmed was anchored by Ms. Maitri Jhaveri from Department of Computer Science.
The Staff and Students of Department of Computer Science presented a very creative Quiz for all in the audience and all those who gave correct answers received gifts. The quiz was followed by a video showcasing powerful woman of India. The faculty participation witnessed enthusiastic participation by faculty members.
The faculty participation witnessed enthusiastic participation by faculty members. A beautiful song was gracefully sung by Prof. Jyoti Pareek from Department of Computer Science. Mrs. Shamina from K.S. School of Business Management sang a song. Ms. Nidhi Dubey from department of Computer Science sang a song.
The prize distribution started with a formal welcome of the guests by Prof. Rajshri Bhatt, Chairperson-ICC. Ms. Neelam Rami was the chief Guest for the function. Dr. Himanshu Pandya, Honourable Vice Chancellor was the President of the function. Dr. Savita Gandhi, Chairperson-WDC gave a quick overview of the activities of WDC-ICC throughout the year. Ms. Neelam Rani gave a wonderful speech on importance of women empowerment and its effect on the society. Dr. Himanshu Pandya, in his speech very rightly suggested that there should not be any competition between women and men. Both have their own respectful existence in the society. He urged one and all present to regard this universal truth to minimize conflicts at home or workplaces. Dr. Archana Mankad, Member Secretary, WDC-ICC delivered the formal vote of thanks wherein besides thanking one and all she thanked all the powerful women in the lives of all working women- mother, mother-in-law, domestic help, cook and the like for taking care of families and homes when women attend to their official duties.
