Cyber Security 2017

WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CELL & INTERNAL COMPLAINT CELL organized a Seminar on Cyber Security 2017 (CS 2017) for the staff and students of Gujarat University on Tuesday, 22nd August-2017 at the Zoology Department Auditorium. Prof. R. J. Verma, Prof & Head, Department of Zoology and his staff helped the organizers in the smooth conduct of the event. The programme was inaugurated by our Honourable Vice Chancellor, Dr. Himanshu Pandya, Patron WDC and President of the function. Prof. Rajshri Bhatt, Chairperson ICC and Director School of Science, Head, Department of Statistics, welcomed the Invited guests and participants. Prof. Savita Gandhi, Chairperson WDC, Head Department of Computer Science, gave a quick overview of the seminar. Justifying the seminar, Dr. Savita Gandhi illustrated the need of being aware of crimes and introduced the distinguished speakers. Speaking on the occasion, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Dr. Himanshu Pandya expressed concern and appreciated the need for a seminar on the selected theme.Dr. Archana Mankad, Member Secretary, WDC & ICC delivered the formal vote of thanks. Dr. Megha Bhatt anchored the programme very gracefully.
The first Guest Speaker was Dr. Bhushan Trivedi, who is currently working as a Dean, School of Computer Technology, GLS University as well as the Director, GLS Institute of Computer Technology (GLS-ICT). He has completed 25 years in academics. Dr. Trivedi, GLS University gave a very informative presentation on How to thwart common security problems while using social media. Dr. Trivedi was of the opinion that current youth cannot think of their lives without social media and smart phones. They are a real boon if we consider how good they are in bridging the gaps between friends and relatives. At the same point in time, it is a menace if users do not follow simple guidelines on how to use social media safely. Crossing the safety line has troubled many, in some unfortunate cases, with serious consequences. His lecture threw light on some common issues and description of measures to safeguard against them, the significance of cyber world and the hidden dangers therein. He was able to put his point across to the participants about vulnerability and consequences of cybercrimes.
The second Guest Speaker was Mr. Rakesh Singh Kunwar, MCA and M.Tech in Computer networking, Certified Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking by Cybrary & have vast experience in several software like Volatility, X- Way forensic, Oxygen Forensic Toolkit,  FTK,   DFF, EnCase etc. As a Researcher, he established complete virtual lab for Malware Analysis and computer forensic Pursuing research on JPEG embedded with malicious codes/malwares as his Ph.D work, has conducted a Cyber Awareness program in Raksha Shakti University and had many research papers presented in various national  & international conferences. Mr. Rakesh Singh Kunwar , Research Scholar from Raksha Shakti University gave a very effective interactive presentation and described actual crime stories to illustrate not only how the cybercrimes are committed ,but also how and where to report and above all how to stay safe in this mystic wired / wireless world of internet. After the session many staff members expressed anguish about how they too are worried about their children using the internet. The key word that emerged was its better to be aware than to be sorry. It is a hidden enemy who does not have a face yet can rob us at least of our peace above all the other nonmaterial things like our precious data. The staff and students from PG departments of the university, admin staff from the university tower and students from Raksha Shakti University participated in the seminar. They interacted with the resource persons and all received a Certificate of Participation.
